"After a certain point, money is meaningless. It ceases to be the goal. The game is what counts."
- Aristotle Onassis
money is something which creates the basic structure of our entire human existence. it is one of the most valuable key element which helps us sustain a balance between everything.
In simple words, money can be defined as an economic factor which gives us the power to acquire anything we want in whichever quantity we want.
it is the most suitable unit of negotiation between different markets which replaced the old traditional barter system under which goods are procured and bartered in exchange for goods and services.
but why we created money and what changed after it?
as we all know that necessity is the father of invention and as a result of the difficulties suffered by people during trade induced the idea of a unit with a special value which changed the entire monetary system of the world resulting in hassle-free trades and unstoppable flow of money all around the world.
but the question now is what was the objective of money and what it has become today? is it a boon or a curse? money brought peace or disturbance?
now we have the answer to all these questions as we have learned decades after decades the good, the bad, the consequences and the results money gave us.
people have found a number of points supporting their individual statements about money.
I personally think money has taken more from us than given us. here are some points supporting my statement :
- Scale to estimate capacity -it has given us a scale to measure how capable a person is with his assets. now everything a person has is defined only by the amount of money he possesses.
- The perfect way for comparison - we humans have always searched for ways to prove ourselves superior to others. with the introduction of money it became easier for us to do the comparison more efficiently as the person with more money wins, no questions asked.
- The proper definition of rich and poor - a person with a tremendous amount of money is called rich and a person with no money is poor. Now we have also different classes for the riches and the poor depending on the amount of money one possesses.
- the game of power - a rich person with more money always holds more power than a poor person. Because power is directly proportional to the amount of money a person holds. the more money someone has the more powerful he will be.
- Trade disputes with countries - the impact of money is large enough that it makes a country run solely by its flow, creating trade disputes with others and increasing the demand for money even more.
How much money we need to live a happy life?
money is our basic need and we have to understand that. it is something which puts food in our table and fulfils all our other needs. so we should respect it for the value it provides us but the question here is how much money we need to live a happy life?
the answer to this question is never enough because money will never be able to fulfil all our desires as new desires are born every day making us believe this is the one which will make me the happiest. so there's no point chasing unlimited money to fulfil our unlimited desires.
what are the signs that you are chasing money?
- thinking about money all the time
- dreaming to fulfil unnecessary desires
- Searching on the internet " how to make money" instead of focusing on your skill-set you are passionate about.
- forgetting about your passion
- believing only money will make you happy
- choosing careers based on the money it offers
- believing money can solve every problem of your life
- forgetting your real value that is worth way more than any money
- forgetting the real purpose of life which is humanity
- forgetting how the small things make you happy and not the lavish things whose main purpose is to impress the world
- and if you are asking the following kind of questions, believe me, you are chasing money making it the only purpose of life
How to stop chasing money and get your real-life back?
every one of us at some point of our lives has chased money in some way whether it's desire or need we have done it.
remember there's a very thin line between chasing money and aspiring for it. the one who forgets all human values in search money is the money hunter, and the person who understands his true needs and looks at money only as a medium to fulfil, without treating it as a necessity is the one with the limitless capacity to control his life and acquire real happiness.
I personally think we have to reprogram our brain of what we are taught and believe about money, as it is very deeply rooted in our mainstream thoughts.
Following are some of the exercises I have personally experienced useful :
- Find the true purpose of your life
- Ask yourself what really makes you happy
- Stop comparing yourself with others for what they have and you don't
- Lavish things are for showing off the world that you are superior and nothing else, somehow it can please you for a little while until it becomes your habit.
- It's ok to treat money as a need, just don't let it become your necessity because that's where people lose their control.
- Be capable enough that money finds ways to come to you, skilled enough that you don't have to search and starve for money anymore.
- Focus on self-growth
- Use your money to provide value to the world, by letting your every penny speak, how they can help millions starving for food and dying every day because they don't have enough and you have.
- "money can't buy us happiness " but it can provide happiness to billions if you make them believe that there is someone who cares for them, with the best humanity can offer. because taking away people's pain is what makes a human real happy.
- Remember one thing we have come to this world without anything and will go with the same so why to hoard anything which can set a world-class example of how humanity feels like.
we have to fight back and realize that a human is more than how
much money and fame he has. so stop being a part of the rat race which leads to nothing other than emptiness and self-hatred in the end.
